There has been so much disappointment and worse in these days of Covid-19 that good news of any kind can brighten your day. Isn’t it appropriate that mine was brightened by winning Special Recognition for On Fire in LightSpaceTime Online Gallery’s 2nd Annual Primary Colors art competition, when the very first artist’s statement I ever wrote about my work said, “I love color. Don’t choose my work if you’re in love with neutrals. There’s nothing beige about me or about my work.”? The gallery received 772 entries from 32 countries around the world and from 34 different states and the District of Columbia. 185 artists were recognized in the Painting and Other Media category, and I’m honored to be among them. All winning entries will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website (www.lightspacetime.art) for the month of July, 2020, and links to my website will remain available in the Light Space & Time Archives.

Modern Family
I took a chance last month and entered several of my larger jellyfish paintings in a Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery “Seascapes” Art Exhibition, hoping that the judges would have a fairly broad view of what constitutes a seascape. Happily they did, and Modern Family was given Special Recognition in the Painting & Other Media category, along with 59 other entries. It will be on view at lightspacetime.art for the month of October, 2017, and will remain in their archives. Makes me want to paint more jellyfish…

Film Noir
I read an article about rejection last year that caused me to make a concerted effort to enter as many exhibits and competitions as I could that come through my emails and art publications and relate to my work. The premise, of course, is that rejection is the best thing that can happen to an artist, making us try harder to ultimately become better at what we do. So after being turned down from various exhibits in New York City, Hollywood, Fl, & Los Angeles, CA, I was thrilled to find that two of my pieces have received recognition in the Special Merit Award Category of the Figurative Art Exhibition at the Light Space & Time Online Gallery, chosen from 667 entries. All winning entries are now featured on lightspacetime.art for the month of April 2017; thereafter, the artwork will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives. The Special Merit Award artists are featured in this video in alphabetical order, so my paintings don’t appear until about 10 minutes in, but I think you’ll appreciate all the wonderful work here. I’m very proud to be included, and, I must say, I think acceptance feels ever so much better than rejection…
